# 10 Things NOT to Do in Prague

Prague is a wonderful city with rich history and culture, yet there are some usual mistakes tourists make. Here’s some tips how to avoid them

# 1. Do not limit yourself to the Old Town Square.

Why? Despite being breathtaking, it is crowded and fails to capture Prague’s full beauty.

For a more realistic experience, consider visiting Vyšehrad, Letná Park, or Vinohrady.

# 2. Don’t exchange your money in the street.

Why? Many street exchangers defraud tourists by offering low rates or using counterfeit banknotes.

Instead, use ATMs, trustworthy exchange offices (such as Exchange.cz), or banks. Always check reviews about exchange offices before changing your money.

# 3.  English isn’t expected everywhere.

The reason for this Even though English is widely spoken, some older residents and smaller businesses might not speak it.

Do Instead:  Acquire some Czech words such as “Děkuji” (thank you) or “Dobrý den” (hello).

# 4. Do not forget to validate your public transport ticket.

Why? Inspectors frequently verify tickets, and the penalties are severe if your ticket is not validated.

Instead, stamp your ticket in the yellow machines when boarding.

# 5. Do not eat near major tourist spots.

Why? Restaurants near tourist attractions charge higher costs and frequently serve lower-quality meals.

Instead, try traditional Czech cuisine at Lokál or Café Savoy, two local favorites.

# 6. Don’t Depend Just on Taxis or Uber

Why? Tourists are frequently overcharged by Prague’s taxi system.

Do Instead: Walk, use Bolt (a ridesharing app), or take public transportation—Prague is a particularly pedestrian-friendly city.

# 7. Never assume that beer is always inexpensive.

Why?  Although beer is usually reasonably priced, some tourist attractions have high prices.

Do Instead: Seek out neighbourhood bars or place “pivo” (beer) orders at less-crowded locations.

# 8. Do not miss out on Czech cuisine.

Why? A lot of people choose foreign cuisine over Czech cuisine, missing out on specialities like *trdelník* and *svíčková* (beef with creamy sauce).

Instead, try these traditional dishes at real restaurants.

# 9. For the view, don’t climb the astronomical clock tower.

The reason for this It’s expensive and overcrowded.

Do Instead: **For stunning vistas, choose Letná Park or the Old Town Hall Tower.

# 10. Do Not Ignore Local Customs.

Why? Simple cultural blunders, such as neglecting to tip (5-10%) or strolling in bike lanes, can irritate residents.

Do Instead: Be aware of your surroundings and educate yourself on local manners.

Avoiding these typical mistakes can make your trip to Prague more genuine and hassle-free!
